Newton and Rochelle Becker Charitable Trust

Type: Private Family Foundation

Established by the late entrepreneur Newton Becker in 2006, the California-based Newton and Rochelle Becker Charitable Trust is a private, tax-exempt charitable foundation possessing millions in revenue. The Trust’s grantmaking focuses exclusively on Jewish organizations including the Zionist Organization of America and Birthright Israel.

Between 2014 and 2016, the Trust poured more than $1.1 million into the Islamophobia Network, giving nearly $800,000 to the Middle East Media Research Institute, and over $300,000 to the innocuously named Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, a neoconservative lobbying group founded with the goal of pushing an aggressive and Islamophobic “war on terror” policy in Washington D.C.
