MONITORING AND COMBATING ISLAMOPHOBIA

StopAntisemitism.org

Anti-Muslim and Anti-Palestinian Activity

StopAntisemitism.org is an Islamophobic, anti-Palestinian website founded by right-wing extremist Liora Rez. Although the website claims to focus on antisemitism, Rez primarily uses the platform to falsely smear critics of the Israeli government as “antisemites.”

In particular, Rez obsessively attacks human rights activists, Muslim leaders, and people of color, particularly African-Americans. Rez has also referred to Jewish critics of Israel as “useful idiots,” “self-hating,” and “self-loathing Jews” who “use their Jewish blood as a justification for promoting vile racism and hatred toward Jews.”

While Rez does sometimes accurately identify individuals who are real antisemites, she focuses most of her attention on supporters of Palestinian human rights. Some of the many mainstream figures that StopAntisemitism.org has falsely smeared as antisemitic include:

  • Agnes Callamard, the Secretary-General of Amnesty International
  • Dave Chappelle, comedian
  • Ariel Gold, co-director of Code Pink
  • Mehdi Hasan, MSNBC Host
  • Gigi Haddad, model
  • Shaun King, activist
  • Congresswoman Betty McCollum
  • Anuradha Mittal, Ben & Jerry’s Board of Directors chairwoman and Vice President of Ben & Jerry’s Foundation Inc.
  • Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show
  • Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez
  • Ken Roth, Executive Director of Human Rights Watch
  • Reverend Al Sharpton, MSNBC host
  • Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib
  • Roger Waters, the co-founder and lead singer of the rock band Pink Floyd

Rez also frequently ignores far-right leaders and groups with antisemitic views so long as they support the Israeli government. For example, Rez has never once listed former president Donald Trump on its website despite his long history of antisemitic remarks.

In addition to targeting individuals with false accusations of antisemitism, Rez’s website publishes reports smearing Jewish and Muslim organizations that support Palestinian human rights. Some of the groups Rez has baselessly smeared include:

  • American Muslims for Palestine, a non-profit organization that advocates for changes in U.S. policy towards Israel and Palestine
  • Amnesty International, the world’s most prominent and respect human rights organization
  • Council on American-Islamic Relations, America’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization
  • CodePink, an anti-war organization founded and led by Jewish-American activist Ariel Gold
  • IfNotNow, a Jewish human rights organization
  • Jewish Voice For Peace, a Jewish human rights organization
  • U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights

Conclusion

Stopping antisemitism is an important and noble goal that everyone should support. Yet Rez’s website is dedicated to weaponizing charges of antisemitism in order to smear, undermine and silence human rights activists, people of color and Muslims who support Palestinian human rights. In doing so, Rez undermines the important fight against white supremacists and other real antisemites who threaten the Jewish community here in the United States and around the world.
