(WASHINGTON D.C., 8/10/2021) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for the resignation of a city official in Tennessee over her Islamophobic, racist and conspiracy-promoting social media posts.
Screenshots Mt. Juliet, Tenn., City Commissioner Jennifer Milele was reportedly involved with included Islamophobic statements such as: “Can a good Muslim be a good American? Can a good Muslim be a good American soldier? REALLY??? The answer is NO. Be bold and learn why.”
Other screenshots referenced “the coronavirus hoax” and the question: “Am I the only one that thinks George Floyd’s death was a set up by the deep state?” Milele said the posts were “taken out of context.”

“Anyone who serves a diverse public should be able to represent members of all communities without bias and without spreading misinformation and divisive conspiracy theories,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We urge Ms. Milele to resign and be replaced by an individual who does not hold such bigoted views.”
The American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
