Bigotry & Brutality in Foreign Police Training
Summary
The Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE) is a privately controlled police training program housed at Georgia State University that has been under scrutiny by civil and human rights activists for over a decade.
Two issues rest at the heart of concerns regularly expressed by faith leaders, civil rights groups and human rights activists. First, GILEE and its founding director Robert Friedmann have a long history of advocating anti-Muslim bigotry and other forms of far-right political extremism. Second, GILEE arranges for police training with foreign governments notorious for militarized policing, violence against protesters and other human rights abuses, including Israel, China and Egypt.
This report, "Bigotry and Brutality in Foreign Police Training," provides a comprehensive overview of the program's history.
